Final reflection and project

This class was one of the most valuable courses that I have taken in my teacher-librarian classes. I don’t know for sure what my future is in the learning commons but I will be able to use many of the ideas, strategies and tools that I have learned in my classroom.

The biggest challenge for me is always keeping up with the rapid change in technology. This course has allowed me to take advantage of any of the tools and technology that I had engaged in before on a surface level to a deeper understanding. It has allowed me to go outside my somewhat timid boundaries when it comes to technology to feel stronger in sharing them. When I first saw that I had to make it through 8 or more blog post I became very nervous and stressed. The first weekend of trying to figure out my way around wordpress just about put me under. Through time and patience I have come to a new appreciation and positive understanding of blogging.

I am excited to utilize what I consider to be useful and fun Web 2.0 applications within my lessons and possibly down the road in the learning commons. Those include “Twitter”, “Padlet”, “Symbaloo” to name a few and others that I hope to pursue in the future. I have seen how some of my colleagues in this class have utilized other Web 2.0 tools and I look forward to experimenting with them myself. I do believe that I will continue to learn a ton from my students as many of them are more competent that myself with some of these tools and computers.

LIBE 477 that Aaron put together was outstanding and I feel that my colleagues did an amazing job with their blog posts. There were so many great ideas and concepts that were shared and explored. I think we were all a little nervous when we got started but were eager to discover new and creative ideas that would help their classroom or learning commons. I wish everyone the best in their future teaching career.

In conclusion

My final vision project was a lot of trial and error. I felt I would take a step forward at moment and 2 steps back. There is so much information on the web that it sometimes gets overwhelming what to incorporate and what to disregard. There is no denying that the future of education is going to be involvedly linked with the digital world. The philosophy of education itself is going through a transformation as we change to ‘personalized learning’ and a reformat in the way that education is delivered. The libraries are changing to learning commons and Web 2.0 tools along with ICT skills are becoming a method teachers are using in the classroom. I want to keep up with what is going on so that I can continue to become a better educator.

Thanks again everyone for your blogs or the comments on my blog, the participation in Google Hang-Out sessions and the great course.

Here is my FINAL PROJECT. Enjoy!

Learning through Exploration

An interesting week for exploration and personal learning.

Creating a Website: I have wanted to create a website for my students and parents to have access to information happening in my classroom. I have used Schoolnotes in the past but it was time to get to the present. Our fellow colleagues are our biggest assets so I collaborated with mine for some ideas and concepts on starting a website. It was a decision between Weebly and wordpress.WordPress

Through sharing, watching You tube videos and researching I was able to get started on my website using the help of Weebly’s  beginners guide to help get me started.

Ms. Trotman’s website is in the beginning stage of construction but I felt it was far enough along that I was able to give my link out to parents that attended the ‘Meet the Teacher Night’ last week.Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 5.44.07 PMMy principal happened to come by when I was talking to a group of parents about my website, at the end of the evening she pulled me aside and ask if I would be interested in collaborating and helping the Athletic Director develop a website for the athletic program. Eager to please I said yes, even though I am a little overwhelm with a my new Weebly website and a WordPress Blog for my TL class. We received help from an 1.5 hour pro-d clinic “Intoductions to Web Creation with Deltalearns”.  By the end we had a direction and we were able to start developing our athletic website using Wordpress. I have explored, developed new many new skills and tools my brain was tired by the end of all the new found knowledge when navigating my way between weebly and wordpress.bizcom55

Teacher Librarian Virtual Website: A new pedagogy in my classroom and as a TL would be to create a Website that is powerful, virtual and that would be available for all students, teachers, parents, anyone, anywhere! I  want the ability to connect with others for literacy issue, critical thinking strategies and information. A strategy would be to engage in Personal Learning Network with other TL to collaborate on the latest books, ideas, resources globally. Whitby has a great explanation of what a PLN is; “A PLN is a tool that uses social media and technology to collect, communicate, collaborate and create with connected colleagues anywhere at any time. Participating educators, worldwide, make requests and share resources”. I think this would be key in becoming a great TL. A great tool that Whitby mentions is twitter to use this account to focus on #educators. The more links that I can establish the better my understanding will be towards becoming a influential TL.

I have had success with Padlet in my classroom and I would continue using it to connect between TL and Teachers. This is a You tube video that I started with to use

Here is a link to my first padlet

Books: It goes without saying if I had time, I would read more books towards my own personal development in literacy and have the ability to collaborate with others. A websitewould give me the opportunity to share one of my latest favourite book “The Martian” with others. In my exploration this week I felt like I was on Mars at times:)Screen Shot 2015-10-14 at 6.30.35 PM
